Sometimes you gotta have a recipe in your pocket for those nights you get home late. Your day probably didn't just end late, but it was stacked on waking up waaaay before the sun, working, schooling, freaking out, studying, interviewing, sweating, speeding, interacting, living...You get the idea.
Having to whip up some quasi-healthy grub on some days is a real challenge. Enter the Tempeh Fajita. These lil' beauties can be prepped and ready for your facehole in about 15 minutes. Take THAT Rachel Ray.
Tempeh Fajita with Adobo-Lime Goodness Serves 4 Ingredients: One yellow onion, peeled and sliced into large strips One green bell pepper One red bell pepper Once yellow bell pepper One package of tempeh, sliced into long strips Extra virgin olive oil Salt and pepper Juice of one lime Two Tablespoons adobo sauce Corn tortillas Shredded sharp cheddar or pepper jack Cotija or sour cream for garnish Spring greens for garnish
In a large saucepan over medium high heat, saute your sliced onions in a squidge of olive oil and a dash of salt. As the onions are working, clean and slice all of your peppers into long, thin strips. You want them to fit nicely in a folded taco, so knife accordingly. Also, if you only have one color of peppers chilling in your veggie crisper, no worries, just use those! Add the peppers to the saute pan and make sure the slices get covered with the olive oil.
After about five minutes of sauteing, add the tempeh slices. You may have to be a little more delicate with the spatula from here on out to keep the slices intact. Add the juice of one lime and the adobo sauce. Don't add the chiles, just the sauce the chiles be chillin' in (sorry.) Add more sauce if you like the heat and less if you have a more delicate palate. Season to taste with salt and pepper and make sure the whole mixture is evenly coated with the adobo-lime goodness.
While the fajita filling is working, warm some corn (or flour) tortillas in the microwave or individually in a dry skillet over medium low heat. Plate your tacos with a generous amount if the tempeh filling and add cheese and sour cream if desired. Serve with spring greens to round out your meal.

A few weeks ago we hosted a great group of ladies in one of our floral design classes. We host these classes throughout the year by client request. Some groups decide to book a private floral design class for a bridal shower or just a fun girls night out.
With all the holiday entertaining this month, this would be a wonderful time to learn to arrange some flowers for your home or as a nice gift for a loved one.

If you're in a California public school, you know that fourth grade is "Mission Time."
A new project about the Carmel Mission, thought by many to be the crown jewel of the mission system, hopes to make a critical portion of California history more accessible to 21st-century students and their families, and to travelers in general.
Carmel recently became the first of California's 21 missions to create a podcast. Podcasts are videos or radio-like files that can be downloaded from the Internet for playback on MP3 players. (Apple's iPod is an example of an MP3 player.)
Carmel's video podcast is available for free on the city's travel Website (www.carmelcalifornia.com). It contains vintage photos and a colorful narrative tracing the Carmel Mission's 236-year history.
"For 30 years, I've said that if I could just touch my forehead to my students' and pass on information about the missions, that's what I'd do," says Susan Weinberg, a fourth-grade teacher in Oakland. "This technology, to me, is the closest thing to that. Plus, students who are confused can reverse and hear it again, and it makes learning easier for those kids who are auditory learners."
MP3 technology is steadily making its way into education's hallowed halls. Two years ago, Duke University made history when it gave an iPod to each of its incoming freshmen. Nearly 100 colleges have followed suit, and today iPods have become a curricular norm in some school districts at as low as the elementary grades.
"I think (the Carmel podcast) is a brilliant idea," says Daniel Krieger, a history professor at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, who is also president of the California Missions Studies Association. "It takes a complex, antique concept and makes it contemporary and easy to understand. Anything that makes (the missions) more relevant is welcome, particularly if it introduces a young audience to the profound beauty of the Carmel Mission."
The mission podcast takes viewers back some 240 years to a time when Carmel was a vital religious center rather than a world-famous tourist destination. Founded in 1771, Carmel became headquarters for California's 21 missions, and was home to their founder, Father Junipero Serra. At one point, the mission was like a small, self-sufficient city unto itself, with several thousand people living on the premises.
Sitting just a half-mile from the beach and steps from Clint Eastwood's famous Mission Ranch, the Carmel Mission still functions as a thriving parish and school. It contains what is thought to be California's first library, as well as the famous Serra monument and a statue that was on the altar when the mission first opened its doors. In all, there are fives museums on the mission's grounds.
One Carmel hotelier says she's ready should iPod-savvy families suddenly become more engaged with the mission by way of the podcast.
"It's not unusual for entire families to stay with us while they research their fourth-grade project," says Carrie Theis, owner of Hofsas House near Ocean Ave. "It's incredible how the parents and siblings get involved. Hopefully, being the first to have a podcast will excite kids and their parents about Carmel and make them want to come here."
The priests who populated the mission two centuries ago lived famously spartan lives, sleeping in small cells furnished with nothing but a cot, a desk and a candle. While they probably would have thought an MP3 player an extravagance, Carmel's marketing guru says the new podcast will be welcome news to the 100 million-strong iPod nation that is revolutionizing the way learning and travel are done in the 21st century.
"The iPod is becoming a cultural norm, much like the Walkman once was," says Jeff Burghardt, whose Anda-Burghardt Advertising created the Carmel podcast. "It's not at all uncommon to see someone walking through a tourist destination with their earbuds in, listening to audio tours or regional music, or looking at downloaded maps."
"The mission's podcast builds a bridge to visitors in a way that's consistent with how folks are getting their information these days."

It's actually fairly creative, with the crazy amount of colors and designs going on with this things, you'd think it was creative by a schizophrenic circus clown of some variety. But it was not, it does portray that schizophrenic clown vibe quite strongly though, not sure if that was intentional or not. Maybe they're trying to get us to visit the circus more, but why would they do that? Unless..... Cadbury is in cahoots with the peanut vendors at the circus. They subliminally put the idea of going to the circus into our mind with bars like this, then all of a sudden we feel the need to go and not even know why. We stock up on peanuts, both to feed the elephants and to feed ourselves of course. And you better believe those peanut companies are giving Cadbury a discount on peanuts, so that this little subliminal game can go on for ever longer! My word.... it's all starting to fall into place, the pieces are coming together like a crumbled Curly Wurly bar. Wait, what if this goes even deeper? What if the cotton candy vendors are involved in all this as well? And the caramel vendors who put the caramel on the apples?! Oh no... NO NO NO! Cadbury why?! They don't even sell chocolate at the circus! They always have some weird blend of carnival food and "regular" food with a disturbing spin on it. Like "Deep Fried Alligator Teeth" or something. Although, I do enjoy the occasional funnel cake, which are actually quite big here in the states. But wait... what if the powdered sugar vendors are involved with Cadbury as well?! Cadbury could be creating some sort of perverse mega sugary chocolate bar with nuts and cotton candy filling. I'm afraid... yet strangely aroused
Taste, Texture, And Consistency 10/10
So... thick! Like a good chunk of sap from your local maple tree (or your normal tree for all you Canadians), this caramel is definitely of the Thick 'N Chewy variety. You get a mouthful of this and you're not talking for at least ten to fifteen minutes. Perfect for parents or baby sitters who just want their kid to stop talking for a second! Oh sure, it'll work for a few minutes, but once that sugar gets absorbed into them, you better believe they're going to come at you harder and louder. Which begs the question, if caramel of the stickiest variety can't keep a kid quiet, what on earth can!? When I was a kid, I was always jumping around doing bizarre things. I do remember this one time in particular when I was bouncing a large red bear, I had just gotten it. And I thrown it very hard against the wall, just to see how far it would bounce. Well, being the idiotic child I was, I turned away the second I threw it, in order not to get whacked in the face by a flying red bouncing devil. After about five minutes of cringing, I finally look towards the wall where I had thrown it and it was gone. I looked under the bed, on the bed, every wall I could touch, even on the ceiling. To this day, I have no idea where it went, I assume it simply disintegrated from the incredible strength I could muster at six years old. Someday, I will find it, but until then I will continue to rip the heads off of gummy bears as a form of therapy.
Overall 9/10
Chewy and chocolatey, Curly Wurly does these two traits very well and lives up to the Cadbury name. Good luck finding one in the states, but for all of our overseas viewers, go get one!
