A beautiful October Wedding in Blackcurrant Sorbet Shades, Photography by Spencer Cartwright of Repartage

por | | 0 comments

Another set of sumptuous images from the fabulous Spencer Cartwright of Repartage Photography, A beautiful October Wedding in Blackcurrant Sorbet Shades, Photography by Spencer Cartwright of Repartage A little word about the seriously on trend Mr Cartwright, he is a joy to work with, he does seem to be every where and no where, in as much as he is unobtrusive, he climbs walls, he lies on the floor, he pirouettes on bridges all in the name of getting the shot, he is also a bit of a "Diet Coke Break" kinda guy for girls like me!

He is based in London so we don't get to work with him too often which is a shame but over the next few weeks you'll get to see his work from some of the weddings we've shared over the past season, so I won't fill in the gaps of whose, who and what flowers I've used as that info is all here

Peonies, Peonies, Peonies

por | | 0 comments

It's wedding season and love is in the air. What is a great concern of the brides that will be walking down the aisle? Flowers. Whether it's the flowers that make up their bouquet, the flowers covering the pathway leading to their men-to-be, or the flowers arranged on the tables at the reception, couples spend serious time choosing the flowers that will adorn their ceremony of love. Many brides go for classically beautiful flowers, like roses, while some turn up their noses at the norm and choose crazy and fun arrangements. So which flower seems to be most popular at weddings, chosen across the board by almost all brides? Peonies. Because peonies are such loved and desired flowers for events, and especially for weddings, we decided we'd take the time to do some research and find out more
about the mystery behind what makes this flower so popular.

Peonies, Peonies, Peonies
According to Greek myth, the peony flower is named after Paeon, who was the student of the Greek god of medicine and healing, Asclepius. As the story goes, the teacher became jealous of his student, so in order to save him from the wrath of Asclepius, Zeus changed Paeon into the peony flower.

Moving from myth to reality, peonies are native to Asia, southern Europe, and western North America. There are several different forms of peonies, but they all have at least five outer petals, called guard petals, and they come in just about every color but blue: ranges of pink, mauve, yellow, red, orange, white, and the list goes on.The peony has been used for centuries in ceremonies and has been prized by many cultures, even named the national emblem of China at one point. If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I would say virtually all who behold this flower find it beautiful.

As a floral company, we are asked by several of our customers to include peonies in arrangements, especially weddings, and it is our delight to make gorgeous bouquets, etc. for the people who share our love for this flower. Below is a picture of a peony bouquet we made for one of our brides.

Jenny Packham, my obsession

por | | 0 comments

If you have read this blog for some time, you know I adore Jenny Packham's wedding dresses. It may be the 20's influence, or the fab old Hollywood feel, or maybe the fabric and all the sparkle. Anyway, I just get a bit giddy looking at them.

Earth Day Tribute to Rachel Carson

por | | 0 comments

Rachel Carson was a woman way ahead of her time.  She studied to become a marine biologist in the 20s, a time when women in science was not only unexpected, but scoffed at.  Her love of writing and of nature helped her create some of the most beautifuly written works about nature, including Under the Sea WindEarth Day Tribute to Rachel Carson and The Edge of the SeaEarth Day Tribute to Rachel Carson.

What Carson is known for is her book, Silent SpringEarth Day Tribute to Rachel Carson, in which she attacks the use of petrochemicals in farming and agriculture.  Published in 1962, this book still rings true today about caring for our environment and the adverse effects of using pesticides and fertilizers.  Any environmentalist should read her books, it will renew your love of nature and reinvigorate your resolve to protect the precious resource we have.

Have a happy Earth Day!

Title: Ben - Earth Song Michael Jackson tribute (Carmen Monarcha)

Tribute to Michael Jackson by André Rieu, performed at Maastricht Vrijthof in July 2009, featuring "Ben" (instrumental) and "Earth Song" (Carmen Monarcha). André Rieu speaks in German, despite the concert being in the Dutch city of Maastricht. This is because the German TV station ZDF commissioned this concert. The concert also exists with André Rieu speaking in Limburgs. This version of the concert was broadcast on Dutch TV (with Dutch subtitles!) in early September 2009, a month after the ZDF broadcast on German TV, and 7 weeks after the actual live performance.

At 0:33, there's a woman with her child (which seems quite content, but not overly enthusiastic), and at 8:03, the same child is enthusiastically waving her arms in reaction to the Maastricht children's choir waving theirs!

And doesn't the moving image at 1:42 prove that Michael is right when he says: It don't matter if you're black or white? We all are one human race and share the same emotions.

A translation of the German text is provided by way of annotations of the video (accessible via the arrow in the bottom right-hand corner of the video if they don't show up.)
